Ramapuram Farming Initiative Expands: TIESFPC Revives More Fallow Lands

March 19, 2026

The fallow land farming initiative of TIES Farm Producer Company (TIESFPC) is gaining remarkable momentum in Ramapuram, marking a significant step towards revitalizing traditional agriculture in Kerala. Following the successful launch of cultivation at Marangad Polders last month with Onattukara Ellu (Sesame), the movement is now expanding into additional fields across the Panchayath.

Encouraged by the early success and growing community interest, more landowners and farmers have come forward, expressing their willingness to bring abandoned lands back into productive use. Taking a proactive lead, the President of Ramapuram Grama Panchayath, Mr. Santharam, initiated a coordination effort among farmers and landowners in the Ezhacherry and Vellilappally regions.

In a recent meeting held with stakeholders, the President inspired the community with a strong vision to rejuvenate traditional farming practices and restore the agricultural heritage of the locality. The gathering was also attended by Panchayath members Adv. N.R. Vishnu and Sri. Jose Joseph, who extended their support to the initiative.

Dr. Punnen Kurian, Managing Director of TIESFPC, addressed the participants, highlighting the challenges faced by Kerala’s farming sector and outlining the company’s structured approach to fallow land cultivation. He elaborated on operational modalities, farmer benefits, and market linkage strategies that ensure sustainability and profitability.

Participants actively engaged in the discussion, sharing their experiences and expressing wholehearted support for the expansion of the initiative.

To streamline and coordinate upcoming activities, a local committee has been constituted with:

  • Patron: President and Members of Ramapuram Grama Panchayath
  • Chairman: Mr. V.G. Vijatakumar
  • Secretary: Mr. Jose Karippakunnu
  • Coordinator: Mr. Benny

The committee has resolved to complete all necessary documentation and contract agreements by March 31, 2026, paving the way for timely implementation.

Dr. Punnen Kurian also sought the support of the Panchayath for preparatory works, including clearing rivulets and removing encroachments affecting paddy fields. The Panchayath authorities assured full cooperation in facilitating these efforts.

With groundwork progressing steadily, cultivation in the newly identified areas is expected to commence by June 2026 (Virippu season).

This expansion reflects a growing community-driven movement towards sustainable agriculture, food security, and ecological restoration—reaffirming TIESFPC’s mission to transform fallow lands into productive, resilient farming ecosystems.
