From Fallow Fields to Golden Grains: Adv. Chandy Oommen MLA Ushers in a New Era for TIESFPC
The quiet landscape of Ericad Padashekharam in Puthuppally was transformed into a scene of vibrant celebration today as Adv. Chandy Oommen MLA officially inaugurated the maiden paddy harvest of the Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences Farmer Producer Company (TIESFPC). This event marks a milestone for the region, representing the successful conversion of long-neglected fallow land into a flourishing hub of safe food production.
Stepping into the field with a traditional koythth arivaal (harvesting sickle), Chandy Oommen MLA performed the ceremonial reaping of the golden tillers. In his inaugural address, he lauded TIESFPC for taking on the "challenging yet noble" role of a farmer in Kerala. He emphasized that bringing fallow lands back to life is critical for the state’s food security and offered his unwavering support for the company’s future agricultural expansions.
The ceremony saw a gathering of key local leaders and agricultural advocates. Mr. Sabu Puthupparampil, President of Puthuppally Grama Panchayath, assured full administrative cooperation for TIESFPC’s initiatives. Sri. Reji Varghese, Deputy General Manager of NABARD, highlighted the importance of such FPCs in empowering local economies.
As the traditional ceremony concluded, modern technology took over. A Kubota Harvester roared to life, beginning the systematic gathering of the crop, which is expected to be completed within two days. The impact of this harvest extends beyond the field:
- Seed Sovereignty: 50% of the harvest is slated to be sold as high-quality seeds.
- Branded Excellence: The remaining yield will be launched as TIESFPC’s very first branded rice product.
- Eco-Friendly Byproducts: Pesticide-free hay is also available for purchase, catering to local dairy farmers.
The event was attended by Ward Member Ms. Kunjoonjamma Abraham, Sri. Jacob George (Convenor, Ericad Padashekhara Samithy), and TIESFPC Directors including Ms. Bindu B.K., Sri. O.A. Abraham, Ms. Latha Jaimon, Mr. Ratnakaran K.K., Mr. Prince Elias and Mr. Ajit Abraham (CEO). This harvest is not just a seasonal success; it is a testament to what collective vision and hard work can achieve for Kerala's green future.
