TIESFPC Launches Virippu Rice Cultivation at Maranagadu Polder, Ramapuram, with 90% Mechanised Farming to Revive Fallow Paddy Lands

September 6, 2026

TIES Farmer Producer Company Ltd. (TIESFPC) has commenced Virippu-season paddy cultivation at Maranagadu Polder, Ramapuram, as part of its initiative to bring fallow agricultural land back into productive use. Nearly four acres of paddy fields, which had remained fallow for several years, are now being cultivated using organic farming practices.

A major feature of the initiative is the extensive use of mechanisation. Around 90% of agricultural operations, from planting to harvesting, are planned to be mechanised, helping improve efficiency, reduce dependence on manual labour and make paddy cultivation more economically sustainable.

Mechanical transplanting of rice seedlings was carried out using machinery from the Agri Service Centre of Kaduthuruthy Block Panchayat. The operation was inaugurated by K.K. Shantharam, President, Ramapuram Grama Panchayat.

Soumya Joseph, Ward Member, Agriculture Officer-in-Charge Minu Maria Isaac, TIESFPC Managing Director Dr. Punnen Kurian, CEO Ajit Abraham, and landowners Joseph Zacharia, and James Zacharia participated in the programme along with other stakeholders.

The Maranagadu initiative forms part of TIESFPC's broader fallow-land cultivation programme, which seeks to revive unused agricultural land through organised farming, modern technology, sustainable cultivation practices and professional farm management. By combining landowner participation with mechanised and organic farming, TIESFPC aims to contribute to food security, safe food production, rural livelihoods and the sustainable revival of Kerala's agricultural landscape.
